Game description:
Mortal Empires is a free DLC for Total War: Warhammer II, a strategy game belonging to a popular series of strategy games created by the British studio Creative Assembly. It adds the third game mode to the Warhammer sub-series (the entire trilogy offers five of those) ? the widely advertised joint grand campaign. The expansion is dedicated to those players who own both the first game and its sequel. PlotJust like it was in the grand campaigns in Total War: Warhammer and Total War: Warhammer II, Mortal Empires invites players to the Warhammer Fantasy universe, populated by such races as Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Vampires, Orcs and many more. This universe is constantly at the state of war. The peoples inhabiting the Old World constantly fight for dominance while struggling to repel the armies of Chaos. Likewise, in Southlands, Ulthuan, Naggaroth and Lustria there is war between High Elves, Dark Elves, Lizardmen and Skaven. Which faction manages to achieve supremacy across all continents, it depends on the player. MechanicsThe core gameplay in Mortal Empires is not much different from what we?ve got used to in other games of the series. Gameplay consists of two phases. In the first one players operate on a strategic world map. In the turn-based mode they make economic and political decisions: expand cities, gather resources, trade, make alliances, recruit troops, move armies and agents etc. When there is a clash between two or more armies, the other phase begins ? spectacular real-time battles of thousands of soldiers. In a battle the most essential is the player?s tactical ability ? choosing the right formations, using the shape of terrain, flanking etc. A vital role is also played by heroes ? they are much more important in Total War: Warhammer games than in the historical installments of the series. Their special abilities can sometimes completely turn the tide of a battle. Although Mortal Empires combines the campaigns of both Total War: Warhammer and Total War: Warhammer II, it does not literally merge the two maps. The joint campaign is set in the Old World with some of the most essential territories added to it, namely, Ulthuan, Naggaroth, Southlands and Lustria. The area consists of the total of 295 settlements controlled by 117 factions (both playable and non-playable). Similarly to the first and second installment of the Total War: Warhammer sub-series, Mortal Empires too features a selection of playable factions with their own units and unique gameplay mechanics. Besides, the joint campaign includes all the innovations and improvements introduced by Total War: Warhammer II. For example, during conquest the player has to consider climate preferences of a given race. There are also some large cities on the map consisting of up to 90 slots for buildings. Technical aspectsJust like Total War: Warhammer II for PC, Mortal Empires works on an improved version of the Warscape engine, a technology that has been powering the series since 2009. Misc. All other DLC and ?free-LC? released for Total War: Warhammer PC is also available in the Mortal Empires mode, thus further expanding the joint campaign map.
