Bedlam The Game for PC is a first person shooter, which takes the player on a journey to the world of classic games from the 1990s. The game was based on a book by an acclaimed British writer Christopher Brookmyre, and developed by RedBedlam ? a team popular mainly for MMORPGs Roma Victor and The Missing Ink. Both the book and the game constitute the first entry in the planned trilogy that is set in the world of video games. Plot & MechanicsIn the book, Ross Baker is the protagonist. He is an overworked and underpaid scientist working for a medical corporation known as Neurosphere. Although the game depicts the same events, they are presented here at a different angle Heather Quinn (aka Athena) is the main character of the game and she works in the same corporation. One day, she decides to volunteer in the process of testing a new technology, because she got bored with ordinary work in the laboratory. As a result of having her brain scanned, Heather managed to get away not only from boredom, but also the real world. The protagonist discovers that she is now in the world of a video game Starfire ? Heather used to play this game when she was young. However, the sentimental journey soon turns into a fight for survival, because Heather is followed by a mysterious enemy ? an organization known as Integrity, which tries to catch the protagonist at all cost. Trying to find the causes of this unusual situation, as well as a way out, the protagonist traverses virtual worlds she knows very well ? it is a journey across the history of video games belonging to different genres and representing different styles. Locations included here were inspired by typical first person shooters, but also classic platformers or real-time strategies that gained popularity in the 1990s. Both the creators of the game and the author of the book are experienced players whose desire was to pay tribute to the games of their youth in this original way. Older players will find here inspirations coming from many classic titles such as the legendary Doom or Wolfenstein easily. Bedlam The Game for PC definitely stands out with exceptional diversity of styles and sceneries present, because this is what makes this particular experience unique. However, not only did the developer recreate environments typical for particular game genres, but also implemented slightly old-school visuals and mechanics the games from the 1990s are popular for.
