Final Fantasy XV: Episode Prompto for PS4 and XONE is the second story-based expansion for Final Fantasy XV, which is the fifteenth installment in the most popular series of jRPGs – the base game debuted in November, 2016. Both the expansion pack and the core game were developed by the Japanese company Square Enix. PlotIn similarity to the other expansion packs for Final Fantasy XV, Episode Prompto focuses on one of the suporting characters from the base game. Prompto Argentum is the protagonist of this expansion; he is a close school friend of the prince Noctis, and an avid photographer. The story presented in this DLC begins in the twelfth chapter of the main campaign, when the team is travelling by train towards the city of Gralea, which is the capital of the Empire of Niflheim. After getting tricked by Ardyn Izunia, Prompto is thrown out of the train and loses connection with his friends. From this moment, the player accompanies the protagonist on his lonely journey to Gralea. Along the way filled with challenges, Prompto discovers a mystery behind his birth, hidden inside military outposts of the Empire. He also meets Aranea Highwind – an acquaintance of his from previous chapters of the campaign. The woman decides to help Prompto. MechanicsThe gameplay formula present in Final Fantasy XV: Episode Prompto is very much different to what the base game offers. Prompto uses exclusively firearms, which transforms the experience into a conventional, third-person shooter. Apart from a standard pistol, the protagonist can make use of automatic rifles and sniper rifles. By shooting specific body parts of the enemies, the player can deal critical damages. The protagonist can use melee weapons as well, and the DLC also offers stealth-action sequences – during those, the player makes their way past the adversaries without making a noise, in order to eliminate them quietly from a safe position. Final Fantasy XV: Episode Prompto for PS4 and XONE offers an open-world map covered with snow – this environment contains several important places and enemy outposts, and the player freely explores the area with a snowmobile. The map also features side quests – completing those rewards the player with opportunities to upgrade their vehicle. After completing the entire DLC, the player unlocks two new game modes. The first of them requires the player to complete the expansion again as quickly as possible and eliminate as many enemies as they can, which is rewarded with a score. The other mode requires the player to fight Aranea Highwind, which constitutes a serious challenge. Technical aspectsFinal Fantasy XV: Episode Prompto for PS4 and XONE does not introduce any significant changes into the visuals or the audio of the core game. Apart from adding a new location and cinematic cutscenes, the creators implemented a few tracks the players did not hear before in the game.
