Neverdark is a real-time strategy that takes place after mankind lost access to electricity on Christmas Eve 2030 and tries to find itself in new conditions. The game was created by Polish studio Simteract. Plot The global energy crisis takes place on Christmas 2030. From now on, the world is completely devoid of electricity, and the Internet and all electrical appliances are just a memory of a comfortable past. As a result of the events, civilisation is collapsing, and new laws are beginning to reign in the streets, where money is no longer the currency and medicines, food or other survival goods are becoming of value. Riots takes place and gangs and groups of predators feel like fish in the water, fighting for control of the territory. In such dystopian condition, we come to lead a group of people who want to restore the city to civilization. The game does not lack important moral choices, which influence the development of the plot. Mechanics The game takes place on maps of three metropolises Paris, New York and Tokyo. The creators of the game decided to use the real plans of these cities rather than design their fictitional equivalents. Our main goal is to reclaim the streets and important places from under the control of gangs, which will increase our influence in the city and give us access to important resources. After taking back the land, the player can decide what to do with it leave it as it is, e.g. set up a farm on top of a roof or let the black market flourish. Deciding which character will get a reclaimed area has consequences that will not always be good. The acquisition of a strategic location can take place in several ways. If we decide on a direct confrontation, a tactical turn-based battle awaits us. Another way is to use a political agitator who will convince the inhabitants of a given location to support our cause, thanks to which the control over the territory will fall to us. If none of these methods succeed, we can hire a sniper that will eliminate the key target, making the acquisition of the land a matter of mere formality. An important element of the game is the management of our faction. Choosing the right group of daredevils and assigning tasks to them appropriate to their skills is the key to success. Governaning also involves numerous political and moral choices and the issuing of decrees in order to bring humanity back to civilisation. Technical aspects In Neverdark we see mainly the city plan, which is maintained in a strongly subdued style. Black with elements of white and sepia dominate.
